The Weekly Troll’s Zine Reading 1!

Standard

This week’s edition of The Troll will be a little different. Last week, we formally introduced ourselves to Albuquerque’s zine scene so everyone there knows what we’re all about. If you ever wondered when it was okay to laugh during the articles, then now you’ll no. No canned laughs here– it’s 100 percent live, raw and in stereo.  Although there’s some  articles from the previous issues, we did release two articles that night: Libertarianism in the U.K., and Conquering the center. If you wanted to to come but didn’t know about it, then you should have fanned us on facebook or follow us on twitter. Seeing how it’s an MP3– people can be reading, engaged in nefarious activities, and it you’re a professor or instructor you finally have an excuse to laugh while you give a pupil a failing grade. And just as a fair warning, there are four, six, and thirteen letter English words so you may want your kids to put on their ear muffs.

P.S. I recorded all the readings with the exception of the very first one that night. If you’re a zinester that was there, did a reading and wouldn’t mind me putting you’re reading up, then feel free to contact me!

Oh, and our first Image d’Art. Trust me, it’s some good stuff.

The Weekly Troll, Volume 1, Issue 2!

Standard

Issue2pg1Issue2pg2Issue2pg3Issue2pg4,

Issue 2 was first published on February 2, 2011: the same day that Governor Vuvu declared a state of emergency! It wasn’t because Issue 2 came out, but we certainly like to think so. It was because it was so damn cold in New Mexico most people didn’t know what to do. Besides, this was out most classiest issue– It only has the fuck-word in it twice!

GPSA President Katie Richardson…is GPSA President

Standard

In typical New Mexican fashion, the graduate and professional students of UNM elected a Texan to represent their best interest.

Yeah, everyone knows that Texans go around acting like they’re better than everyone while quoting scripture, but Katie Richardson is different. Instead of Bible-thumping, she thumps physics and has reformed her Texan ways.

When she went to the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena Calif., she found out that Texas isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

“We have a lot of pride, and a lot of ego, and not a whole lot to back up,” said Richardson, aDallasnative.

After she got her physics degree from CIT, she came to UNM for graduate school and considers N.M., a nuclear wasteland of a state, as her favorite. Although she isn’t the result of five generations of inbreeding, she loves green chile and identifies herself as a Burqueña.

She also just loves UNM because of you. Yes, you! You and that thing that you do that you’re so passionate about and attached to.

So far, she’s making the best of her time here at the university. Not only is she 5 percent of the graduate female population in the physics and astronomy department but also killed during the Graduate and Professional Student Association’s presidential election with 50 percent of the vote.

Richardsonsaid that she had an effective campaign for two reasons.

“One because the message that I was delivering that graduate and professional students are really concerned about like student debt, GAPA and RA availability– that resonates with people. The other part of it was that I had an amazing team of people who believe in the cause, the academic mission, and the students who were passionate about it and worked hard for the campaign,” saidRichardson.
